About The Drug Metronidazole?

I was prescribed this drug to take for 1 week twice a day. my doctor told me that since it can be very hard on your stomach to take it with a meal.
I just looked it up on drugs.com and it says to take it at least 1-2 hours before eating. It specifically states to take it on an empty stomach. Which is correct? I know generally you should listen to what your doctor tells you, but there’s a possibility she made a mistake when she said it.
Also, drugs.com says not to chew it because breaking it will release too much of the drug at once.. I did not do it on purpose (I wouldn’t because it tastes absolutely disgusting if you’ve ever had to take it), but I just bit into it by accident. What can happen?

Metronidazole is usually taken prior to eating because taking it on an empty stomach increases GI tract absorption. Whether you take it with a meal or a couple hours before a meal shouldn’t make much of a difference.
Accidentally breaking the tablet won’t make that big of a deal one time, but the purpose of leaving the dosage form intact is to keep drug levels constant. Just try and leave it intact next time.
    hope this helps!
